Predawn dreams, thoughts & impressions regarding current family issues:
The word salvation comes from the Greek term "soedzo" (sp?) meaning to be saved.
The meaning includes the idea of being healed and made whole in body, mind & spirit.
Salvation comes from repenting (literally changing one's mind in such a profound way as to cause behavioral changes) through believing in the Truth (Jesus) and demonstrating that faith by confessing that Jesus is Lord. John 14:6 and Romans 10:9.
Conversely, believing in things which are false (which is the essence of deception) does the very opposite to mind, body and spirit. It actually causes damage to both entities.
Clarification of term definitions is needed here. We are created in God's image. Just as He is a triune God, we are a trinity of sorts. "...We are a spirit, we have a soul and we dwell in a body..." Our soul itself is a triune creation consisting of the intellect, the emotions and the will.
(The term "mind" can be said to include the intellect and the emotions thus we have the two terms "mind" & "body".)
There is plenty of scriptural evidence of the fact that deception is at the root of sinful behavior and that sin can and does cause damage to both the mind and the body.
An example of that is found in saint Paul's letter to the Corinthian believers.
1 Cor 11:30 tells of believers who were taking communion carelessly and without due reverence. That caused sickness in the congregation, so severe that some even died.
Yes, lifestyle decisions can be deadly as many people have discovered over the centuries.
Following is a synopsis of the several deceptions that are damaging to members of this family. They are listed in no particular order but just as they prayerfully come to mind.
It can be noted also that every deception is simply an idea that opposes biblical principles.
1. The bible has nothing to say about my life including all the major decisions I make.
2. The ten commandments have no relevance to me. I am free to do whatever I want and I need not be fearful of any consequences for actions that some may consider sinful.
3. Our God is love so the concept of punishment or chastisement is only a human construct.
4. Philosophy or religion or worldview (whatever label seems to fit best) doesn't matter at all. The bible is all about freedom and the idea of accountability to our creator for what we believe or how we act upon those beliefs is entirely irrelevant.
5. Politics are entierly irrelevant. As long as we obey the government we need not fear any kind of trouble. Since politics don't matter we should never discuss anything political.
6. Feelings are the most important thing to consider. One should never say anything that may be offensive.
7. There's no such thing as absolute truth. Whatever one chooses to believe is all that matters.
So far I've only listed seven deceptions. As I review them a ton of scriptures comes to mind and every one of those deceptions are easily refuted with biblical Truth.
Another false doctrine often described by the acronym "osas" (once saved always saved) is, as a former pastor once said, may be the most debillitating idea ever taught. Many denominations both catholic and protestant have taught this in one form or another. Basically it's the false belief that something (like water baptism for example) guarantees one's salvation.
That could have been included as an eighth deception.
Here's another list of deceptions that also oppose the truth and scripture but they are listed here separately because of their connection with current social and political bad ideas.
1. There can be many genders. The idea of only two genders is simply a mere human construct. Anyone can change their gender to fit whatever seems to suit them.
2. Homosexual behavior between consenting adults is not morally wrong. We have total freedom in such matters.
3. Anyone who speaks against such behaviors is being hateful and judgemental. The bible says we should never judge. (That's a big popular false belief!)
4.. We should never engage in controversial speech because it hurts peoples' feelings.
5. There is no "left or right". (Jesus clearly refuted that false idea - see Matt 25:33.)
6. Abortion is not wrong. The fetus is just a pre-human growth.
7. Capital punishment is wrong because the 6th commandment says "you must not kill".
The late Charlie Kirk was an expert in explaining the absolute differences between right and wrong. We are thankful for his life and influence.
Yes, there are moral absolutes and moral relativism is absolutely deadly.
We can trust the Holy Scriptures, the Owner's Manual for the Human Race.
